Save Over £1,000 This Christmas

Christmas is a time to enjoy the company of loved ones while indulging in delicious food and drink and surrounded by the sparkle and glitz always associated with Christmas celebrations. However, for many, the magic of the period is clouded by worries about the costs incurred during the festive period.

But hold the panic. Research from musicMagpie found that people can save an average of £1,094 this Christmas by renting items instead of buying them outright. The analysis compared the cost of renting the most popular festive products to the average cost of buying them outright and found that households could save a lot of cash by opting for temporary ownership.

Here are five ways you can make renting work for you this Christmas.

Spend Less On A Christmas Tree

Renting a Christmas tree doesn’t only save money but also removes the hassle of having to dispose of your Christmas tree. The average cost of a 6ft Christmas tree is £84. However, this centrepiece of your celebration could cost only £69 if you choose to rent it for £14 days. You save £15, don’t have to deal with the tree post-celebration and you allow the tree to be replanted, securing a win for sustainability.

Rent Tech Gifts

Save hundreds of pounds by choosing to rent tech gifts for a year instead of buying outright or entering into a payment plan for permanent ownership. Buying an iPhone 13 costs about £659. However, renting it for 12 months costs about £299, saving you £360 compared to an outright purchase. Renting an iPhone 14 could result in a saving of £441, renting a Nintendo Switch V2 could save £100 and renting an iPad Pro 11 could save you £433. When the 12-month term elapses, renters can choose to upgrade, keep the same device for less or return the item. Considering most people only use the same phone for a year or two, renting a phone for a year to save money is a no-brainer.

Rent Outdoor Bulbs/Lights

How amazing would it be if you didn’t have to worry about untangling the Christmas bulbs and lights year after year? And wouldn’t it be more amazing if you could also save £85 while ridding yourself of that chore? Renting outdoor 30-metre lights with 300 bulbs for seven days would cost only about £30. However, buying it outright to keep would set you back over £115. That sounds like paying to be frustrated year in, year out.

Slay For (Way) Less

Finding a nice dress to wear to Christmas parties or to a fancy Christmas dinner is near the top of the list for women every year and purchasing a pretty dress can cost a pretty penny. The average cost of a designer party dress is a whopping £375. However, renting a dress for a few days just may be the answer for people who are either unwilling to spend this much or just can’t. Renting a designer dress for four days could cost you £56, a huge bargain compared to the price tag of outright ownership.

Get A Trestle Table For A Fraction Of The Cost

Having a dinner with extended family doesn’t need to cost an arm and a leg. There’s no need to buy one for £159 when you can save £147 by renting a 6ft x 4ft Trestle table for three days for the tiny sum of £12. And when the parties are done, you don’t have to worry about where to store it. Just ship it back and count your savings.
