Host A Fabulous Christmas Party (On A Budget)

‘Tis the season for Christmas parties and the ultimate time to shine for those who love hosting. However, the cost of living crisis has many wondering how they can host a fabulous soiree without breaking the bank.

Fortunately, experts at VonHaus have figured out some handy tips on how to throw a Christmas party which will linger in people’s minds and be the topic of conversation well into the new year.

Invest In A Cocktail Making Kit

No fab Christmas party is complete without a cocktail or two. Skip hosting the Christmas party at a bar or restaurant and make the alcohol budget go further by throwing the party at home and investing in a high-quality cocktail making kit. Set up a cocktail making station and have guests mix their own cocktails. Make it even more fab by printing out cocktail recipes on nice stationery and displaying them at your DIY bar.

Ask Each Guest To Bring A Dish

Ask each guest to bring a delicious starter or main. This request need not be presented as a way to cut down on the host’s costs. Rather, it could be worked into the theme of the party. For example, guests could be asked to bring a traditional dish from their country of heritage to fit with a ‘Christmas Around The World’ theme. Or guests could dress in the fashion of different decades and bring dishes which correspond to the time period of which they’re dressed.

Use Energy-Saving Appliances

Switch to energy saving kitchen appliances to help cut down on costs when preparing for the party. Save money by using a slow cooker to cook the turkey. A 3kWh electric oven costs £1.02 an hour when running at full power, while a slow cooker cost just 5p per hour. Using an air fryer to cook is also much cheaper than turning on the oven. Twenty minutes of cooking using an air fryer would only cost about 10p. However, those same 20 minutes using an oven could cost 25p.

Get Creative With Decorations

Decorations don’t have to be brand new. Get creative and work out how to repurpose items you already have at home. For example, wine lovers could collect up empty wine bottles and use them as candle holders or unique table centrepieces. Small paint sprayer tools could also be used to add a festive touch to foraged pinecones, holly and mistletoe.

Upgrade Leftovers

Make your leftovers go further. But don’t half-ass it. Upgrade your leftovers so you can keep dining like a queen even after the party is over. For example, you can melt leftover cheese and chocolate for your own private fondue party the evening after the party. Whether you’re dipping strawberries into chocolate or bread into gruyere, there’s no reason you can’t make the post-party experience as fabulous as the party.
