Over the last few years, more and more people have been swept up in the wave of the home organisation trend. Shows like Tidying Up With Marie Kondo and Stacey Solomon’s decluttering and home improvement show, Sort Your Life Out have captured the attention of millions of viewers.
According to research carried out by Expert cleaning brand Gtech, Solomon’s show was the best reviewed programme of its kind in Britain and YouGov has ranked Marie Kondo number 11 on the list of the most popular influencers.
But Stacey and Marie aren’t the only famous names associated with home organisation. Khloe Kardashian is also a top contender, with her videos and pictures of an impeccably organised pantry drawing loads of admirers on Instagram. But you don’t need to have the funds of a Kardashian to make your home a clutter-free haven.
Here are some clever tips and tricks to help you organise the rooms in your home.
BEDROOM
The bedroom should be a calm and streamlined space where people can go to switch off and it’s one of the most important rooms in the house to be able to achieve serenity. However, being surrounded by clutter or having items scattered all over surfaces can make it feel like less of a sanctuary.

Use A Mug Rack To Compartmentalise Your Jewellery
Storing jewellery can be a bit of an issue because jewellery boxes can be quite expensive but putting all your jewellery in a drawer can cause them to get tangled.
However, to avoid having to deal with a frustrating, tangled mess of jewellery, use a small mug rack to compartmentalise jewellery. Just pop it on the wall and categorise it by placing necklaces, bracelets and even rings separately. Organising it this ways also helps you see everything at once.
Utilise Shower Curtain Rings In Cupboards/Wardrobes
One of the best ways to organise is by properly utilising vertical space in cupboards. Hook shower curtain rings onto clothes rails and hang up belts or bras onto the rings.
KITCHEN
The kitchen is the hub of the home and needs to be a streamlined and functional space. It’s an area that needs to be kept quite clear and decluttered otherwise it could get overwhelming. However, it’s one of the places where many people tend to clutter.
Buy Some More Shower Curtain Rings For Use In The Kitchen
Use shower curtain rings to hang up your oven mitts and towels on the oven door could really save on space. Get colours which match the surrounding space; If you have a chrome oven, get matching chrome shower curtain rings to go with it.

Old Makeup Boxes Could Help Organise The Miscellaneous Drawer
A common issue in the kitchen is a miscellaneous drawer where a lot of clutter gets dumped. Some items in there may be useful and some may be brochures of places which have shut down years ago. Use shoeboxes, old cosmetic boxes or even old phone boxes to compartmentalise the sections in that drawer. It’s a really good way to categorise and contain items such as sewing bits or stationery.
Installing Tension Rods Could Make A Big Difference
Installing tension rods in the cupboard under the kitchen sink and hanging cleaning products by the spray attachment creates space at the bottom of that cupboard. Alternatively, if there’s a tall cupboard where the ironing board sits and there isn’t any other space for cleaning products, install a tension rod in that tall cupboard. And voila! There’s a lot more storage space.
CHILDREN’S BEDROOMS
A child’s bedroom is an area which can get very messy. However children tend to get very overwhelmed if they are surrounded by lots of clutter or toys. Properly organising a child’s room means less time is spent getting ready for school and children can be more productive in their rooms.
Use Ladders For Storage
Attach small baskets – or use hanging baskets – to medium-sized ladders and organise children’s toys in those baskets. The back of the ladder could be used to hang things like children’s coats, hats and scarves. For safety reasons, ensure the ladder is securely fastened to the wall.
Children often come home from school with a lot of artwork and parents don’t always know what to do with them. Attach a shower curtain wire on the wall and hang little hooks off it. Artwork could be clipped onto those hooks, making a vertical gallery wall.
LOUNGE
The lounge should be a light and airy space where people go to switch off. It should be a space where not everything is on display so there isn’t that sensation of having a lot of items everywhere.
Use Shoeboxes To Tidy Up Wires
She says: “One way to achieve this could be to use shoe boxes to conceal power cords of the TV and other electronics. Paint the shoebox according to the colour of the nearby unit, cut out the right size holes to feed the wires through and then just pop the shoebox where the mess of wires used to be.

BATHROOM
The bathroom is a space where it’s very important that it doesn’t become too hectic but having items all over the floor or in the bath doesn’t help. Children’s toys in the bathroom can be an absolute nightmare for parents because they can clutter up the whole space.
Use Netted Vegetable Sacks For Toys And Other Small Items
A netted vegetable sack, usually found in supermarket vegetable aisles could be used ot organise toys and other small items. Put all of the toys/items in the sack and hang it up on a hook or handle. Doing this allows all the water to drain out; it’s hygienic and all the toys are contained.
